Day 1 of Democratic Convention

Mitt Romney did not feel the need to mention the fact that we are still at war in Afghanistan, and according to Paul Ryan, Romney covered the war in a couple of sentences a few days before their convention, so there was no need to bring it up again. What a contrast to what I have seen so far on this first day at the Democratic convention. Tammy Duckworth gave an amazing speech. She is such an inspiration, as she lost both legs in an insurgent attack near Baghdad. She served and sacrificed for this country, and instead of becoming bitter, or thinking that she had already given too much of herself, she is striving to serve her district in Illinois, running against Joe Walsh.

I love hearing such stories, as they always force me to look inwards and confront myself and see what it is that I can be doing better.

Wow, just saw the Stacy Linh speech. As you can see there are Americans out there that are doing better than they were four years ago. Thanks to the Affordable Care Act, or Obamacare, her daughter will not have a lifetime limit for insurance benefits, which is great news since she was born with a congenital heart defect and has already had to have two surgeries, and needs at least one more. I personally know someone who has a son that already had a heart transplant, but they discovered that he needed a new kidney right around the time that he turned 18. Thanks to Obamacare, he was able to stay on his mother's insurance until he turns 26 and is able to continue to get the care he needs. Both my fiance and I have both gotten letters from our insurance companies saying that they did not spend the full 80% of premiums on actual health care (not profits, or administrative costs) so we get a rebate back. Again, that is thanks to Obamacare. Do not get me wrong, I want there to be a single payer health care system instead of insurance companies making profits off of American's health or lack thereof. A Medicare for all. But since the Affordable Care act was so contested by most on the right, I think it was what we could get passed now. And Obamacare helps people. It says that insurance companies cannot deny children on the basis of pre-existing conditions, and by 2014, no one can be denied because of pre-existing conditions.

Ok, back to the convention...
